Visualisation Tech & XR headsets For Aerospace Digital Visualisation Suite in South Ayrshire

Updated: Feb 16

Target3D equips the newly launched Aerospace Digital Visualisation Suite which is bringing the latest in XR and digital technology to Scottish SMEs.

THE REQUIREMENT

South Ayrshire Council wanted to offer small to medium manufacturing businesses free access to the very latest XR and digital visualisation technologies to help them grow their business in the aerospace and engineering sectors.

The Aerospace Digital Visualisation Suite (ADVS) is based within the Aeronautical Engineering Training Centre at Ayrshire College. The project has been established following a successful bid to the Advancing Manufacturing Challenge Fund (AMCF) led by South Ayrshire Council and its partners, which saw a total of almost £1.1 million being allocated from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and match funding by the Council.

THE SOLUTION

Target3D were enlisted as the main supplier for procurement for the Aerospace Digital Visualisation Suite by South Ayrshire Council, creating an unrivalled selection of mixed reality headsets including Epson Moverio, HTC Vive Pro, Meta Oculus Quest, HoloLens 2, PiMax, StarVR, Nreal Light and Varjo.

A video conferencing kit, 10-camera volumetric studio, monitors, workstations and software were also installed by Target3D, ensuring the specialist digital visualisation lab had everything in place to allow local companies to enter or expand their presence in the aerospace sector.

THE RESULT

The Aerospace Digital Visualisation Suite was officially opened by Ivan McKee MSP, Minister for Business, Trade, Tourism and Enterprise on 30th May 2022.

The ADVS team has already worked with over 50 companies since becoming operational earlier this year. In conjunction with their academic partners, the University of Strathclyde and National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), the team works closely with companies to identify XR solutions to everyday challenges, supporting them in de-risking process improvement and design processes, achieving time and costs savings on live testing, development and training in 1:1 scale.

THE FEEDBACK

"Target3D have brought excellent product understanding while working in partnership with the ADVS team to help deliver the largest selection of XR technologies held in one place in the UK. Even through the current challenges of import, export and supply chain, Target3D were able deliver equipment in a timely manner, with any issues being addressed with a single phone call.” Brian Ronald, Application Specialist AR/VR Project Manager, South Ayrshire Council
